Point Park
Forest Service picnic site on Grand Lake, run by the Town, where the lake meets the channel to Shadow Mountain Reservoir: a quarter-mile mostly paved loop, covered picnic tables, a pier facing Mount Craig, and access for paddling and fishing. First come, first served.
Point Park is owned by the U.S. Forest Service and run by the Town of Grand Lake under an agreement with it. It sits on the shore where Grand Lake meets the channel to Shadow Mountain Reservoir. An easy, mostly paved 0.25-mile loop passes picnic pavilions and benches along the water, with access points for non-motorized boats and fishing, and the Point Park Pier, a 36-foot dock, looks across to Mount Craig (Baldy). The Forest Service lists covered picnic tables, flush toilets, potable water and fishing piers. Restrooms are at the trailhead; the Town counts 7 parking spaces, 2 of them accessible, and says the park is accessible. Alcohol, tents and pets are not permitted. The Town no longer takes private event reservations, so use is first come, first served.
From US 34, turn onto West Portal Drive toward town, take the first right onto Center Drive, turn left at the stop sign onto Marina Drive, right where it ends onto Cairns Avenue, then the second left onto Shadow Mountain Drive; the park is on the right. The Town’s pages give two addresses: 729 Shadow Mountain Lane (the nearest house, which the Town suggests for map searches) and 910 Shadow Mountain Drive.
