Inside Grand Lake

For businesses

If you run something in Grand Lake, this is how the guide works for you: what a listing is, how to fix one, and what is for sale.

A listing is free, and it is ours

Inside Grand Lake lists 4 businesses and venues in Grand Lake, and 1 parks and trails beside them, 5 places in all, because they are here, not because anyone paid. Nobody can buy a listing, buy a better position, or buy their way out of one. Each entry is checked against a source — usually your own website — and says when it was last checked. That is what makes readers trust the page you are on, and that trust is the whole point of being on it.

A listing carries your name, what you are, where you are, when you are open, your phone number and your website, a sentence or two on what you are known for, and a photograph if we have one we are allowed to use. It also shows whether you are open right now, worked out from the hours on the page, and it appears in the directory, in the site search, and beside any event held at your address.

Claim it, correct it, add to it

The fastest way to improve your listing is to write to us from it. Every place page has an “Own or run this?” link at the foot of its details, which starts an email to us with your name in the subject line. Things that are always welcome:

  • Hours. One line, in your words: “Tue–Sat 10–5; closed Sun–Mon.” We keep it in that shape so the site can tell readers when you are open.
  • A photograph you own or have the right to give us, with who to credit. Most listings have none, and a listing with one is read more.
  • A correction. A phone number, an address, a closed location, a change of name. Know something opening or closing? Tell us.
  • An event. Anything open to the public — a tasting, a class, a market day — goes on the events page for nothing. Submit it here.

Not listed at all? Say so on the same form. If you are in Grand Lake and open to the public, you belong here.

What is for sale

Sponsorship, labeled as such, beside the editorial and never inside it. A sponsor’s name appears on a page or in the weekly email as “presented by”, with a link. It does not change a listing, the order of a list, or what we write. The placements on this guide are:

  • A “presented by” line on the events page and the weekend page — the pages readers come back to every week.
  • A labeled block on Moving Here, which is where people about to move to Grand Lake look for an agent, a lender, a mover.
  • A line at the top of the weekly Inside Grand Lake email.

One sponsor per placement, so a sponsor is not competing with three others on the same page: the most a page carries is that one and the network’s own sponsor line, which is sold for every guide at once and labeled the same way. Prices are not published yet: ask, and we will quote one. The network’s advertising page says what the guides have measured of their audience so far and since when, and quotes no number nobody counted. To talk about a placement, email us.

What we will not do

Write a listing you dictate, take a listing down because a competitor asked, call a sponsor “our pick”, or put an advertisement where a reader would take it for a recommendation. The editorial policy says the same at more length, and it applies to us as much as to you.
